"A new way to search and browse" / "A new kind of browser" / "Redefine what it means to browse the web"
[
axis.yahoo.com...]
Available as a standalone browser or plugins for existing browsers.
Some key features;
- instant previews
- touchscreen support (seems aimed towards this market)
- cross device support (pretty cool - can swap from mobile to tablet and same web page will be loaded with one touch)
- customisable homepage
- as a plugin it appears as a sliding bar at the bottom of the browser
It kind of looks like Apple's site search but for the web.
Think Google toolbar for the mobile / multi-device age. It also goes a little way to removing SERPs entirely (managing them as a backend process basically, rather than displaying the 10 best results).
Interesting move, particularly with their marketing dashboard launch the other week ( [
webmasterworld.com...] ). Lot of people have written off Yahoo! with their bad decisions over the years, but there is a hint of a really solid strategy emerging. Part of Apple's focus on design and their own focus on small business / information, combined with their Bing alliance could really open up some serious competition for Google.
