Yeah, def an update. I woke up to 50% more traffic from Yahoo.

I'm also seeing an increase, but only about 10%

yes i too saw 25% increase for my site

No difference on any of my sites. One is a six year old, another 3 years old. But Yahoo never did more than 3 to 4% of my traffic and its the same over the past few days.

Sadly, Yahoo! seem to have followed Google by weighting Wikipedia pages higher than ever before. So now we see appalling Wikipedia articles outranking far superior pages that used to be above Wiki in Y!

Hint to Y!: Turn DOWN the Wiki points in the algorithm, like Google have.

I have been whining for a long time about being an authority site on google for my keywords, having sitelinks, etc, and at the same time being nowhere in Yahoo, not even in the first 200.

Well, after this update I am on the first page. But the sites listed immediately above and below mine are such a junk that I can hardly be happy about the change.

I can not believe these SERPS are to stay.

Don't forget that Wikipedia is a high-traffic site with pages that tend to have a lot of (good) backlinks and (mostly) good content, so I think that if you're seeing their pages ranked highly it's probably a result of the algorithm, not necessarily of some type of manually assigned bonus. From that perspective, if more of their pages are showing up in the Yahoo! search results, it may actually be a sign that the quality of those results is improving, that they are getting better at providing authoritative results.

Wikipedia is incredibly well structured, with a totally impressive taxonomy system of topically related internal and outbound linking, particularly to informative, authoritative sources.

Since the weekend my traffic from Yahoo has dropped by half.

Does anyone have insight as to which websites were effected and for what reason?

Well blow me down. I'm back on page #1.

3 years ago, I ranked #1 for a big key phrase in my niche. Brought in nice, very targetted traffic. Then it dissapeared. Yahoo just didn't like me anymore. Went from #1 to oblivion then last year stayed at page #20++. Whatever I tried, Yahoo! just refused to move me from the tail end of the serps. Contacted Yahoo! twice. They gave a boilerplate reply about my site contravening one of their policies. The only thing I could think of was that Yahoo! refused to follow a re-direct for one of my major pages and just kept on spidering the new pages while keeping the old. In other words, as far as Yahoo was concerned, I had almost a thousand duplicate pages of content.

I've given up on Yahoo! because although I'm back on page #1, it may last just one day, one week or one hour. With Yahoo! I never know. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the extra traffic and earnings it brings.

While writing my previous post, it occured to me I better take a peek at my Yahoo! sitemaps to see what was happening.

Previously when I got bumped to the backside of Yahoo!'s serps, I noticed that they had listed my site as having one subdomain (there is none). Like I said, previously the page count displayed showed ALL pages including the old ones which I had deleted (duplicate content).

Just now, I noticed the subdomain has gone and my page count is correct. Dare I hope this will hold?

Hmm. Well I don't have any subdomains listed which is the way it should be. I never even relaized how much traffic I was getting fom Yahoo. The night of 9/11 I lost 13% of my traffic.

As far as I can tell what changed is Yahoo now seems to be ignoring all my Default pages.

So for example where a search would normally show this page from my site in the SERPS, say at number 2
http://www.example.com/category1

It now shows a slightly less related pages at number 12 for the same search such as
http://www.example.com/category1/product1.php

So because the second page is deeper within my site it tends to have less internal and external links and therefore the page will be way down in the SERPS.

That is as far as I can tell what is going on.
