Only manually add domain names? I need help with Hetzner DNS Console

I recently got a server (AX41-NVMe) with Plesk at Hetzner. Via the DNS console I added the base domain name, where I also want to reach the server, and that works fine.

What I'm running into now is Hetzner telling me to manually add all domain names to the DNS console in order to use them with the server. But that's crazy, isn't it? There are hosting companies that also rent the servers and they cannot manually add every domain name in the DNS console, I think.

I'm not used to it that way either. The server I rent from Leaseweb allows me to simply add a domain name to cPanel and it will be automatically recognized by the worldwide DNS servers.

For me the Hetzner DNS console is not a workable solution in this way. So I thought to solve it with the Plesk extension for Digital Ocean. Works great! But unfortunately no more than 50 domain names are allowed to be added to their DNS. I want to add 100 domains, so this solution doesn't work either.

So my question to you is:

How can I make my domain names reachable, without manually adding them all to Hetzner's DNS console?

For domains hosted on the Leaseweb cPanel server, are you using Leaseweb's nameservers or your own?

There's a difference between hosted DNS and self-hosted DNS. Hetzner's DNS Console is a hosted DNS service, your cPanel server probably has a self-hosted DNS service. In other words, the Hetzner DNS service is separate from your server, whereas your cPanel server hosts its own DNS. Because the latter is integrated with cPanel, when you add a new domain it'll automatically be configured on the DNS service (usually that's BIND, behind the scenes). That won't work with Hetzner's DNS Console, because there's no connection between the two.

You can either self-host DNS on your new Plesk server, or find a third-party hosted DNS service that has a Plesk integration, like Route53 [plesk.com] (where you'll incur charges for each hosted zone, of course).

Hosting companies like Hetzner, Leaseweb and DigitalOcean usually offer their hosted DNS as a courtesy to customers. They impose certain limits (like Hetzner's 25-zone maximum) because they probably don't want to host all your customers' domains without compensation.

(Nice box you got there, by the way.)

Thanks Robzilla,
I'd rather have Plesk's build in DNS take care of it. But it doesn't seem to connect to the outside world.
Will that be solved when I add more IP's and add own nameservers? I remember the cPanel configuration does have ns1 and ns2 records which I added manually.

Yes, you'll need one additional IP address, so that you can register two nameservers.

Hi Robzilla,

I at worked out fine. Getting an extra IP and adding de custom nameservers to the DNS-settings in Plesk and the glue records as well just solved it. It is basically the same setup as with cPanel/WHM.
I guess I was too focused on Hetzner DNS.

Thanks for pushing me to the right direction.
