Actually, you can by selecting "Desktop" in the left hand pane of the program and dragging/dropping into the "Desktop" path on the local site. However, you are correct in that you cannot drag/drop directly to the desktop outside of the window.

to be fair that's my only gripe with filezilla.

i dont want to have to fiddly select folders i wish to download file into on the left, i want to have those folders open on my workspace and be able to drag to these folders.

when/if this issue/feature is ever resolved/implemented i will/consider dumping leechftp.

Do any of the (s)FTP options allow you to upload a file to more than one site?

My situation is that I have one domain and a number of sub domains that all use the same code. Previously I wrote my own FTP client that allowed me to select a number of source files and a number of destination sites and with one click I could upload all the files to all the sites. Unfortunately I lost (dozy git!) my source code and, rather than re-write it I'd love to use some existing tool.

Any suggestion gratefully received.

I downloaded and had a look at that but the only way I could see to upload to many websites was to do them one-by-one. A bit tedious for what I need to do. Maybe the feature is there but I could see it.

Yesterday was a holiday here in Thailand so I spent the morning writing my own FTP client in VB6. Works a treat.

I'm interested in identifying an FTP client that is better than the one(s) I am using now. So I skimmed this thread and put together a (very rough and probably inaccurate) summary of pros/cons and # of users for each client identified (a 'i' represents an individual who has expressed using the ftp program as their primary client). NOTE1: I personally use CoreFTP and Filezilla, but also another client that has not been mentioned so far: FireFTP. I am a big fan of FireFTP because can be used from inside a firefox browser (i.e. it does not require that an external program be opened). The drawback is that it does not support FTP over SSH and is somewhat minimalistic (which can be a good point depending on your perspective).

NOTE2: I purposefully left out Linux and command line ftp clients in order to simplify the list (I imagine that most people connect from a Windows machine via ftp/sftp/etc. to a remote Linux/Windows box, so I did not want to confuse these users). Sorry. If you want to add Linux clients to the list you can.

now allows for improved SSH, it's about time!

I downloaded and have been using FileZilla 3.0.5.1. The project has really been expanded since I first starting using the software. I like the new feature for saving settings -- a little different than previous versions yet quite customizable. It is a complete rewrite so some of the old features are not in the new version yet, but the software is also now available on *nix and other platforms besides Windows. And yes, drag and drop is there :-)

you can count me among those in your list who have switched from leechftp to filezilla 3 in the past month or so.
in the past i had also tried cuteftp and smartftp.
and extensive usage of command line ftp...
