A top court in the E.U. has said that European regulators in any E.U. country can take its own action over privacy issues, and this could affect the major tech companies.


However, the advocate general of the European Court of Justice said Wednesday that privacy complaints do not necessarily have to be taken to the domestic regulator — thus opening the door for more investigations over data concerns in different EU nations.

Did I understand this right. What they are saying is that they can apply the law from which ever European country they'd like. So a complaint in France could be tried according to German law if the prosecutors feel like it or not.

You did understand it correctly, with one slight misunderstanding: It would mean the regulator in any county in Europe could try the company based upon their European head office, wherever that is within the E.U.
