For those thinking that the GDPR won't change anything ... it's true, as far as you are not the target.

French digital rights group La Quadrature du Net that's on the rampage, and it hasn't just gone after Google and Facebook. It's pursuing Apple, Amazon, and LinkedIn as well.

One of the GDPR's many novelties is that it allows non-profit organizations to complain about companies' violations on behalf of those who might be affected. This action adds weight to the complaints, and makes it more likely that they are well formulated
That's a misguided statement. I don't know about other countries, but in the US anyone can form a non-profit organization for almost any reason; the criteria is not that restrictive and has absolutely nothing to do with the validity of their merit if filing a claim against another company, for any reason.

Class actions are very new in Europe.

@keyplyr
You are right that a campaigning group is no guarantee of merit, but as per the original quote, it does make it "more likely that they are well formulated" - and that a good lawyer will be hired to represent (something that is by no means guaranteed if you are a non-rich individual, but is nailed-on if you are a rich company).

As per QuaterPan, this is innovative as Class Action is a very American concept, generally unrecognised by the various legal systems in the EU.

My worries is that, legitimate motivations to fill complains against such or such "evil" company, turns into a witch hunts against anyone, for any reasons. At another topic EUMember mentioned several times about lawyers offices going after anyone, just to make money. I don't know what I would do, if someone, one day, fills a complain against me. I don't even know where to find a lawyer, and I could certainly never afford one...
