Researchers estimate over 400,000 routers are affected by cryptojacking malware devised to mine crypto currencies.

Routers ought to be updated to mitigate the problem, and the manufacturer most affected has issued an update some time back.

The problem is that most people probably don't even think of updating their router firmware, nor how to do it.

When was the last time you updated your router firmware?

The last time I updated my router firmware was a week ago. Not because of security issues, but once you start to use more advanced features like WAN load balancing and QoS shaping, you soon discover how immature the software of many home- and small office routers is.

Throwing the product out on the market before the competitor seems to be priority. And with a functionality first, security second attitude which is seen in many software developments it is no surprise that routers are such easy targets.
