I have a computer that just started to turn on by it's self. The Power supply turns on and the Fans turn on and it stops at that point. The computer does not Post or continue to boot up. The only way to turn it off is by killing the power supply by the switch on the back of the PSU. No new hardware has been added to the computer. I have not started taking the computer apart yet but planing on to soon. The computer was built in 2009.

Can yall give me ideas on what might be the problem be so i can get an idea on the costs.

does the computer actually work? outside of this no post power on stuff?

what would happen if you didn't touch it and let it run?

some of the new new boards have a dehumidify setting.....which will power the system on and run fans until its lower, then turns off.

doubt a 2009 system had this though.

At least that's better than my current problem with one machine that powers itself DOWN without reason!

Do you have strawberry ants (sometimes called "crazy ants") in your part of the country? Been known to make electronics do strange things.

No I don't have a ant problem with the computer. Will start trouble shooting things tomorrow with it.

sounds like the motherboard might have taken a dive.

BUT, lots of things will stop a POST. if you are going to start trouble shooting it... do this, REMOVE everything that is not needed.. pull all cards, pull all hard drives, even pull the front case header connections (audio, USB etc) get it down to the base system of.. board, ram, proc.

if it is still dead with no post at that point..... mainboard is probably toast. 2009 system... we are looking at a new build. I can help you out with this... lets see what we are working with 1st.

if you do get everything pulled and it starts posting... take your time, and put it back together ONE part at a time.... you'll find the problem soon enough.

Probably not necessary... damn thing's been overclocked for two years. Have a feeling it's thermal. :)

Any one have a water cooler handy?

You aren't supposed to overclock and just park it like that 24/7 LOL

haha never saw an ATX power supply power up without a signal from a motherboard.

at least it didn't give you the magic smoke!
