I'm shopping for a new (cheap) PC and have the choice of getting a
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor 524 w/HT Technology (3.06GHz,533FSB)
or
IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor 521 w/HT Technology (2.8GHz,800FSB)
For exactly the same price.
The only option for RAM is 533MHz.
So my question is, which is better? The faster CPU with the slower bus (that is the same frequency as the RAM) or the slower CPU with the faster bus (where the bus is faster than the RAM, could this cause issues?).

It would be hard to notice either one would be faster in side-by-side speed differences. However, if the mother board can be upgraded to a faster processor, that leaves room to grow. The fast front side bus will have a longer usable life span than the .2ghz will have. So, go for the faster fsb board, and then you can upgrade the processor/ram at a future time (a year or so) when processors/ram drop in price.

The AMD one.

Oh, sorry, that wasn't one of the choices. :)

Intel has finally caught-up with and surpassed AMD with their latest "Core" architecture. But I think you will find that AMD will give you faster processing at significantly less power consumption than the choices you've offered.
