I have been involved with a company for a couple of years, for this example lets call it "Fobar LTD".
I recently discovered that in the past another (un-related) company was incorporated as Fobar LIMITED. This company was dissolved in 2008.
The problem I have is that all pages on the company website contain a copyright statement "copyright 2013 Foobar LTD". I just wonder if this may be seen by search engines (specifically Google) as a page containing out dated or irrelevant information. Is it possible that search engines are aware of company records, and may not be aware that this company is not in any way related to the former company.
We are all aware of the pitfalls of previously owned domain names. I am beginning to consider that this may also be a problem with company names.
At this stage I am just sounding off and searching for opinions, but it does make sense for search engines to provide less access to information that contains references to businesses that no longer exist. It may be a way for search engines to prevent users coming across outdated information.
Could this be happening? open to your opinions.
Mack.
