Earlier this week, 20 web advertising companies wrote to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)'s Advisory Board to ask that the standards organization revise its governance process to prevent ad tech giants like Google from running roughshod over the concerns of others with an interest in the web.

Do they have a point? What is your take?

Hello,

From my understanding, in fact, the main concern, of these "advertising" companies, is about the sliding of Web browsers toward increased privacy protection, and especially the fact that Google Chrome announced significant changes within the next 2 years.

I understand their concerns, but, indeed Google (like other Internet giants) can be motivated by their own interests, but this movement is pushed by regulators mostly.

This is the regulators, which are first enforcing all kind of rules and restrictions.

Going to The Register, I was greeted with a big (but removable) banner saying something along the lines of You Can Leave Your Ad Blocker On. This, it turns out, is an EXCELLENT way to make visitors disable their ad blocker without delay. At least this visitor.

Word To The Wise.
