Over the years there have been many posts recommending traffic diversification. While it is certainly not easy nor quick to accomplish there can be significant advantages. To illustrate I'm sharing stats for the first three quarters of this year. Granted, I've been working (and it is work) on traffic diversification for well over a decade.but that just means I'm further along the path than many while not as far as others.
The stats are from English language evergreen information sites in three related niches. Smallest site sees ~1000 human uniques/day, largest over 100,000. Numbers are basic arithmetic mean averages, variously though consistently rounded.
Note: o/a% = percentage of overall traffic, CR% = conversion rate percentage, C/M = revenue conversions per thousand visitors.
Traffic from Search Engines: 37%.
* Google: o/a%: 22, CR%: 2.3, C/M: 5
* Bing: o/a%: 8, CR%: 3.8, C/M: 3
* Yahoo: o/a%: 3, CR%: 3.2, C/M: 1
* DDGo: o/a%: 3, CR%: 3.4, C/M: 1
* Other: o/a%: 1, CR%: 2.7, C/M: 0.25
Total search engine traffic C/M: 10.25
Traffic from Social Media: 24%
* FaceBook: o/a%: 14, CR%: 19.2, C/M: 27
* Twitter: o/a%: 6, CR%: 17.8, C/M: 11
* Second Life: o/a%: 2, CR%: 47.5, C/M:9.5
Note: SL was my first excursion into SMM back when.
* YouTube: o/a%: 2, CR%: 12.4, C/M: 2.5
* Other: negligible
Total social media traffic C/M: 50
Traffic from non-search non-social media referring sites:(backlinks!) 19%
o/a%: 19, CR%: 6, C/M: 11.5
Traffic from Apps (native and web): 14%
o/a%: 14, CR%: 34, C/M: 47.5
Direct: 6%
o/a%: 6, CR%: 8, C/M: 4.75
Average revenue conversions per thousand human uniques: 124
for an average revenue conversion rate of 12.4%
I know others doing as well. I know others doing significantly better.
Compare the various traffic sources for volume and value.
May you be inspired and prosper in the coming years.
