I recently switched a biz site to an eComm host. This automatically made the new version SSL, as the old informational portion of the site was not. All redirects have been setup on the new eComm host. So now nothing on the regular http site is used, but the files are still on the server. There's no reason why I should keep those there, correct? I assume not, but just wanted to make sure. Sometimes there's some obscure reason for doing stuff like that, so just wanted to check. I'm not very good with that part of the internet world.

No need to keep files on old host.

However, you should maintain a complete backup on your local machine and also on an external storage device. You never know when there might be a zombie apocalypse.

After you've changed your DNS info and pointed your domain at your new server, it should take less than 72 hours for that info to propagate around the web to all the ISPs and net block routers. After that you can close your old hosting account if you are no longer needing it for other purposes. I always removed all my old files as a security measure, but that's probably not necessary as they will likely be purged when your account is closed.

Congrats on moving to HTTPS :)
