Question: Is there a legitimate way to set aside part of a page with a no-index label?

The only alternative I can think of is to put part of the content into an iframe and no-index this second page. That seems kind of extreme.

Q: Why do I want to do this?
A: Because I've got a quotation on a subject that's got nothing to do with the page content, and sometimes the quoted material comes up as an exact-text match.

Yah, that was my Option B :(

Because the quotation illustrates something that is relevant to the page.

By analogy: those who have snooped know that my Panda Page consists almost entirely of very, very long-tailed searches that led people to my site-- in most cases wrongly. So, almost by definition, a search leading to the page would not be answered by the content of the page. But that's an entire page; a comprehensive noindex is the easy and obvious fix.

In principle: Eeuww. But in this specific case that might really be the best option. Hadn't thought of it-- due, of course, to the "Eeuww" factor ;)
