Wouldn't you like to have this budget for your site?

"The challenge is it's harder to get people's attention than it used to be...So we decided to do something really over the top to get the message across," Soder said. The new spot will be on his company's website and, he hinted, may be part of next month's Super Bowl commercial extravaganza.
At the risk of wandering into Foo territory... Remember those mid-'70's stories involving kids saying "Hey, look, Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings"?
I remember having to break it to my son that William Shatner's TV career did not begin with Boston Legal.

Try the Twilight Zone, two different episodes I recall: the weird creature on the wing of the plane in "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" , and the devil fortune teller on the diner table in "Nick of Time".

Arrrggghhhh! This isn't about Shattner (first screen appearance in 1951), it is about having a successful internet marketing idea work for 14 years on tv and print and then deliberately blowing up the character created in that marketing (which made a bunch of bucks for the company) because they are changing the way their web site works!
Then again, if I had that kind of money to toss off in the new ad campaign I might not be posting here from time to time. :)
Just an observation that what makes SOME websites WORK is old, tried and true, advertising venues (tv, radio, print) and not a reliance on search engines.

It may be about both. If an actor wants to leave a role, having him go out with a literal bang is a good way to let viewers know that you really mean it, he won't be back next week. And, at the same time, you get a whole lot of people discussing-- or at least mentioning*-- your product over the water cooler.
Never mind that spectacular save at the bottom of the seventh. Yes, yes, I know. Did you see the commercial that came on right afterward?

Shattner is still under contract with priceline... they have a bit to go before that terminates. :)
Most of us don't have the same "buzz" appeal in media, but if you can start it, plan for it, build it over the long term, your dependency upon search engines alone becomes less important.
What are you guys doing in local or national or international PRINT, TV, FILM markets to get your site name branded?
