Maybe this was the real issue behind that whole stuck gas-pedal thing:

[theregister.co.uk...]

We have developed the ability to remotely compromise key ECUs in our car via externally-facing vulnerabilities, amplify the impact of these remote compromises using the results in this paper, and ultimately monitor and control our car remotely over the Internet.

Maybe, but the hack was about some dude getting in your car connecting his laptop and then attacking the CAN bus and its systems.

Time to get cars without computer systems that employ secret back doors.

Time to ask yourself if your truck REALLY needs to email you when it needs a tune-up?

Along with "cool features" comes clandestine crap such as monitoring/recording your location 24/7, picking up vehicle data whenever you pass a beacon and god forbid remote shutdown when someone ELSE thinks you don't need to drive. Since nobody is asking, will all vehicles become disabled if government issues an emergency curfew to curb "widespread panic and resulting injuries"? It's in the code.

The FBI has been using OnStar for years to monitor phone calls of suspects. They can also remotely turn on your cellphone apparently.
