Define Duplicate content

I have a landing page that has 6 sections with short teaser content that link to the full article / full content.
However the teaser on the landing page is generally the first sentence or so of the full content on the linked page. it is usually a teaser and then a click to read more type link.
i am afraid of it being seen as duplicate content as google is unclear about how large content must be to be considered duplicate.
this is what they talk about "substantive blocks of content"
can anyone shed some light and ease my paranoia....please
thanks

I think that one sentence is okay. I've done something similar on one of my sites with no problems. The site is about four years old, has never been penalized, and is doing very well overall in Google's rankings for the targeted keywords. And some sentences are used on multiple pages, not just two pages as in your case.

These things are deliberately obscure to stop webmasters manipulating the SERPS.

To put it another way the rules are whatever Google decide and they aren't going to tell you what they are or when they change.
