Hi there
'long time no post' been busy sorry.

I've created a 3D shopping mall in pure HTML no flash required.
I think I'm right in saying it's the first of its kind in the world.

As you can imagine its almost entirely images and not very much text which presents challenges from an SEO point of view. I'm worried about over Alt tagging if there is such a thing and would really appreciate your input on that.

I feel this idea has potential because most websites have something fun or interesting to attract visitors and then we try to monetise them by placing adverts. Whereas with this site the fun interesting parts are the adverts, so visitors are probably looking to spend some money.

I guess you could call it a 'proof of concept' as it looks simple and repetitive at the moment, but it could look fantastic with more money spent on 3D modelling.

So my questions are:
1 Is this a really good idea or am I delusional?
2 How would you go about marketing this?
3 How do you on page SEO on a page which has very little text?

I think it would be rude or against the rules to post a link, all I can do is give you a clue.
<snip>

I would really appreciate any input because I work on my own and you never know if you're been overly optimistic or simply going mad.

1 Is this a really good idea or am I delusional?

I don't see the Unique Selling Proposition that makes this a really good idea.

2 How would you go about marketing this?

I can see this being of interest to bricks-and-mortar shopping malls that want to build an online walkthrough. Could be a useful adjunct to their directory, although the mall is unlikely to want to encourage online shopping, of which they don't get a percentage.

3 How do you on page SEO on a page which has very little text?

Inbound links. But what keywords do you realistically hope to rank for? How does this improve my life? Why would I want to seek out or bookmark your website? What's your linkbait?

I thought more people would have replied.

Thanks jomaxx for your input,

I don't see the Unique Selling Proposition that makes this a really good idea.

The “mall” idea of having a number of retail outlets in one place clearly works as 6 out of the top ten biggest malls were built in the past 3 years, and just about every large town has one. I can’t find any other working mall online which makes me think that it is a Unique Selling Proposition.

I know Inbound links are very important but they are by definition “off page” SEO not on page SEO.

All images should have an alt tag to make your site accessible to those using a page reader (ie - a blind person).

Hence if you just stick to describing what each image is, you really can't over do it.

Now if you start plugging tons of irrelevant keywords into your image alt tags, that can be considered spammy. But if you stick with creative descriptions, you are good.

From a first time user standpoint, I felt really lost when I was travelling through the mall. I think I needed a reference point on a map to know where I was. Kind of like going to a new B&M mall, I would check the map to see where stores of interest are and get a feel for the layout of the building.
