Hi guys just had a potential new client who ive been talking to who wants this kind of website/system, ive not done anything like this before and would appreciate any advice on where to start, if i should look at a cms etc?

Help!

We need a web based case management system to help us handle our client's claims.

The information held on the case management system would be our client's personal details as follows: -

Client Name
Address
Postcode
Telephone Number
Date of Birth
National Insurance Number
Source of Referral

We need the case management system to create a unique reference number for each new client.

The main purpose of our new case management system would be to send standard letters to each of our client's in word format.

We will also need a diary system in place so we know when to chase our client's just in case they don't reply

Start by hiring a developer that has experience with similar projects.
You'll get yourself in trouble if you try to do something like that without actually knowing the technology and rely on guidance of boards. Since it's commercial, you'll be liable to your clients and that is a very high risk if you cannot estimate the quality / security of a given script / module.

What would I do?

Outsource it. No question whatsoever.

Cheers guys

Any ideas where i could outsource this to?

Another couple of things...how much would something like this normally cost and what should the mark up be for myself?

I'd take it to a local developer I've had dealings with in the past and basically just drop it in his lap. He'd treat me right on it. If you're asking what industry standard is, I'm afraid I don't know. 10%, 15%? Even if he screwed me, and there's always that possibility, what am I out? A few emails, a couple phone calls, maybe an hour of my time. It wouldn't hurt that bad. I've heard scriptlance is good but I haven't had any experience with them.

The details of your post make one think you might also want to read intensively on the United Kingdom Data Protection Act ..and talk to a solicitor who specialises in it ..before you maybe make yourself liable for "infringements" of or to it or "providing the means of infringement" to it or of it..in the UK "infringements" of or to it may make one criminally responsible ..

Juicy prospects may also have their downside and or risks ..make sure what you are getting into .. if you are the "primary contractor" ..the legal "buck will stop with you" ..
