Can anyone recommend a reliable free Secure FTP Program? I have tried a few of them and I can't find a reliable one.

Thanks

SmartFTP - it's free for non-commercial use and won't expire or anything.

Also if you have ssh access you might try (assuming you're on a windows box) WinSCP.

I'll second FileZilla. It uses the PuTTY secure shell processes.

Not that I am trying to be like everyone else on here.... but when I saw the title I thought I would pop in and recommend Filezilla.

It has many features that I enjoy using as well it is known for security.

In what way have you found the ones that you have used unreliable? The problem may not be the client software.

On Linux, I use sshfs, which maps a local directory to a remote site. Then I just use "cp" commands, a GUI file manager (I like Krusader for this), just open files in a local editor, etc.

I found that some locked up on me, or would say that the file was transferred and it wasn't.

Thanks everyone! All your replies are very helpful.

Ok, I have installed FileZilla, but it won't connect. I have used the exact same address, user name and password on other programs with no problem. any suggestions? Thanks!

It's ok, I'm in! I figured out that I had to set the Active Mode. Thanks!
