Simulating Slow Connection Speed

How can I emulate a dial-up connection?

I am wondering if anyone knows how I can emulate a slower internet connection. I would like to test load times for 56k and slower modems. I am using a cable modem. Is there a way to emulate a slower speed?

I have found a couple of programs:

Speed Limiter
XAT's WebSpeed Simulator

I cannot get either of them to work.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks!

check out "sloppy".

It's free and works perfectly.

If you are using Dreamweaver it shows how many seconds page would take to load at particular speed

Just come over to my house, dial-up, and cuss a lot waiting for pages to load. Ah, the rural life. Can't get cable, can't get DSL, can't get cell phone service, can't get pizza delivered.

Sloppy works great except a couple things:

Ajax calls and session cookies.
I'm guessing this is because Sloppy acts as a proxy server and so the domain no longer matches.

The other problem is links... they don't work if the URL is not relative (e.g. http://www.example.com/test.php as opposed to /test.php). Perhaps this is also affecting the Ajax calls.

I will have to experiment.

In the meantime I will consider your offer wrgvt. I can bring pizza! :-)
