Googlebot caught my site in the middle of an update

Any methods for avoiding a partial index during a site update?

A site I run has its front page updated on an almost daily basis. This generally involves adding a few links and graphics and removing others. The usual stuff.

I looked at the cached page recently and noticed that the latest indexed version was an incomplete version of my home page. The main issues is that a few graphics were missing, and those that were there were related to an older block of text.

The home page is a static html file and so Googlebot must have got there in time to grab the HTML, but just before the new images were fully uploaded.

I supose it could have been worse. The bot could have got there whilst the index page was being uploaded and got a 404, or partial content error of some sort.

I know that this will be updated in a few days. But I wondered if anyone had any tips on avoiding this in the future.

Do you keep a sitemap (for the SEs)? And then maybe show that the page has been update and Google should stop back by to spider it

Hi Corey

Thanks, but I'm a bit confused as to how a site map might help. Can you expand on this please?
