I'm a bit behind the times, but have just started looking at CMS solutions to offer my clients. I've found some nice ones like cms made simple and expression engine (hard to follow). Do you have one system that you like? Is is easy to show your clients what to do?
Do you find changing the url path easy(getting rid of the index.php or whatever)?
Since they install php files, and I've noticed someone looking for php files on my stats, is there a security issue? The last thing I want is to install something for a client then have it blasted by malicious people.

Thanks for your help!

I use Drupal (drupal dot org) and keep suscribed to the security issues newsletter. Only one time i had to update it because of a serious security flaw and it was a pretty easy operation.

Theming is not for the faint hearted but nonetheless the software compensates it with lots of features and ease of use.

I user Joomla long time joomla dot com. There are many of my clients use it.
It's exact solution for non-technical people... a "girl secretary" can add info easy same like at Microsoft Word typing.

If customer asks me about cheap CMS solution with hist own original design, i offer them deep joomla scheme design integration. The source code of the Joomla is not programmer dream but with experience the speed of the full design integration is very fast for me.

You should take a look at our Content Management Forum [webmasterworld.com].

Personally I use MovableType as a CMS on many sites. It's probably the most powerful and flexible system out there for this. It may take a bit more tweaking than a WordPress or Joomla setup, but it works for me. Another one I like a lot is Drupal. The latest release of Drupal (5) is quite a step forward.

Another nod for Drupal. It's robust & secure (keep it updated). I love the UI, easy to use and intuitive text-based navigation. Some people prefer Joomla's interface, but it's too image-heavy and clunky for me.

Drupal is great. URL remapping is simple. There is a TinyMCE module to make the pages easy to edit. Experiment with custom content types, views, panels, and contemplate to see the flexibility and power.

I've used Joomla as well, and Drupal is much more powerful and flexible in my experience. No comparison.

Exactly. Clunky describes Joomla perfectly.

Thanks for the replies. Have checked out the CMS forum (not really a hopping place is it) and followed some links there.
It sounds like different ones will be best for different clients, depending on need. Urg.
I was surprised no one jumped on expression engine -- seems a bunch of designers are using it and loving it.

I was looking for a CMS for a secure Intranet website that would have its front door open to the web. Expression Engine had some major limitations with permissions for me. I don't recall the exact details, but it didn't mesh with the permission structure I needed to work with my system. That stopped my consideration of that CMS dead in its tracks.
