Someone slandered me on their website and when I looked up the site in WHOIS it had a phony name, address and phone number. Is there any other way to find out who they really are?

And if I do, what can I do about it?

It's prohibited to have phony WHOIS data, so have your attorney contact the registrar and get the name, either voluntarily or with a subpoena.

Slander == Attorney. Don't fool around, or you may weaken or destroy your case.

And BTW, forums are a bad place to get legal advice... :)

Is it hard to get this type of subpoena?

Ask your attorney. We cannot give legal advice here, and even if we could, you'd be wise not to put too much credence in it...

ask yourself a question:

is it worth getting an attorney? Is it to get even and "teach them a lesson" or is this costing you money as your reputation is being hurt? How about just asking nicely to remove the information? Sure you can sue and find out about them but it can cost you a lot of money.

You are looking at probably $3000 minimum to even get it started.

And you have to ask yourself, how much effect does this really have, how many read it, and how many really care? And unless you can prove actual damages after spending a few thousand $ the best you will get is some kind of cease and desist order.
