Twitter’s stock collapsed on October 14 — at one point falling over 8 percent — after potential suitor Salesforce withdrew its interest following the release of a “Teen Survey” that found virtually no interest in the Twitter brand by youth.

[breitbart.com...]

According to the article much of the lack of interest is self-inflicted by Twitter, with other products gaining in the meantime.

There are no quotes to people associated with SalesForce to substantiate that article. There is zero foundation to the story. That article is 100% speculation.

Reading other reports, including an interview with Benioff, it's crystal clear that the reason SalesForce retreated is because Twitter was overpriced, it did not add to SalesForce and many stockholders, board members and other interested parties expressed their displeasure with the deal.

Don't form ideas or opinions based on this ridiculous article. It's a fairy tale.

Even fairy tales have basis in fact. While I agree that the article suggests a teen survey was the deal breaker, we all know that Twitter has been going south for the last 18 months and is seeking new 52 week lows on the market. Overpriced, over valued, and over exposed with other self-inflicted wounds based on bias and "censorship" have not helped.

The teen survey is located here: [mms.businesswire.com...] and does show Twitter falling far behind expectations, much less placement, in social media.

It shows very little change from Pew's survey more than a year ago: [pewinternet.org...]

I did not think Twitter is even supposed to appeal particularly to teens. Most of the article is spin to suit the Breitbart world view.

I think the problem with twitter is not lack of teen engagement, but losing its focus and adding features to draw in new users that alienate its existing users. People use twitter to quickly scan through short comments and interesting links. Almost every change Twitter has made recently has detracted from that: they seem to want to go from being Twitter to a second rate Facebook.

Amen. Self-inflicted!
