Hi All,

I have a YouTube channel in which I am putting dance videos. Most of the videos are created on famous songs but as soon as I upload my dance video on YouTube, I got a copyright strike. I am not able to monetize my channel due to this. Let me know what can be done to handle this as I have seen so many viral dance video channels which are not using their own sound.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

i would suggest looking for a business model that doesn't depend on copyright infractions.

@theseoguyindia ... Welcome to Webmasterworld!

Music is very difficult, music and dance even moreso (not the dance, the music!)

Fair use (some countries) is about 10-20 SECONDS of audio. Since the "dancing baby" music has become even more tightly controlled by copyright holders and there's no going back in that regard, UNLESS you contract with the copyright holders and pay royalties for the use of that musical performance.

there must be some options, I have seen so many channels with millions of subscribers. How are they operating?

Here's the key part of the link I sent you.
Creators should only upload videos that they have made or that they're authorised to use. That means that they should not upload videos that they didn't make, or use content in their videos that someone else owns the copyright to, such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programmes or videos made by other users, without necessary authorisations.

When an artist creates a piece of music they expect to be able to make money from it. There is no allowance for someone else to simply reuse the work to create a video (derivative work) and expect to also be able to make money. The exception to this is when the artist releases the music under a license that allows reuse such as "creative commons"

There is no advice anyone can give you here that will make it acceptable to breach copyright laws. I know this is not what you want to hear but it is the case. Unless you are able to create your own music or license it you will not be able to monetise it on youtube.

You mentioned there are other channels with lots of subscribers doing this also. They may be operating within the rules. YouTube allows you to check on the copyright status of a song and it's usage allowances. Some labels do allow their content to be used within videos, but you cannot monetise them. The label (or copyright holder) may be generating revenue based on adverts shown.

Mack.

I have a youtube channel and I am facing the same problem. But this problem doesn't affect on your monetization process.

You might want to take a look at "Checks" by YouTube as it's a new tool to screen your videos for potential copyright claims and suitability restrictions.
