Cross-pond SERPS differential

I'm no 1 in the UK but only no 8 in the States!

Hi Guys,

As it's December 1st tomorrow, let me be the first to wish you all a merry crimble!

Now I feel a bit like Robbie Williams - I've made it in the UK, but no-one in the States knows me. Now he had a US home and lived there for 4 years or so, neither of which I have. I have only my .co.uk Home and am wondering if there is any way of getting a UK site to register higher in the States.

If I start to spell things the Amerian way, will I go down in the UK rankings? Should I just feel happy with the UK market?

My tracking shows that I am doing better in the States on some keywords, but dont know why. I would appreciate any insights as to how to make the same page rank high in both these markets.

In part, where you host the site will make a difference.

In addition, the .co.uk may not be so appealing to a US audience and a .com would look more likely to be aimed at a US audience.

It's as if you have to Internationali(s)ze your site, too. US spelling and phrases will help you appear in the SERPs for phrases North American's would use.
