PR1 for supposedly popular topic & no visitors-what am I screwing up?

Google claims 74K searches for portable keyboard but I'm skeptical

I deployed a site called <snip> last week.
It leapt to page 1 for core search term I'm targeting.
Google's AdWords Keyword tool claims 74,000 searches per day. I haven't had a single visitor.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

.

PR has no connection with popularity of a topic, or the content of your site. 'Visible' PR is an indicator (no more) of the number and power of links to the page.

However, having any PR does suggest that the page is indexed, and therefore 'findable' via Google.

But, of course, many other pages are also indexed, and may be doing much better than yours.

New pages often appear on the first page of keyword results, but this is very often transient; Google finds the page, gives it the 'benefit of the doubt' ... but over the next few days, as the spider revisits other relevant pages, yours is compared to them, and it gradually finds its 'right' place.

Where that place is depends on many factors; partly the number and quality of your links, partly the quality, originality and quantity of your content. It has been estimated that Google considers up to 200 factors, some very minor, some vital.

Take a glance at sites above yours in the search results; are your pages ready to compete with them?

Is your content of quality?
Is it original and unique?
Do you have quality links to your site?
Is your site navigation good?
Does your site conform to Google's guidelines .....

And so on.

Are there specifics we can help you with, or do you need to keep working on your new site, and reevaluate after a few weeks?

Quadrille, great assessment. It is indeed a work in progress and not even @ 1.0 yet. I shall put my nose back to the grindstone and come back later when I feel it's better cooked.

Thank you.
