Hi all, new member in Seattle here.
I own and run a <snip> webstore. I started on eBay, then progressed through Yahoo ecommerce's web building tools. Currently I build and update my site using an old version of Dreamweaver; I want to republish using MS Expression Web. It's a css-based site creation tool.

I was researching SEO software recommendations. My Google PR was up to 3; it is now down to a 1! I've read that full blown SEO management software isn't generally recommended, particularly a precious metals named one that Google has expressly banned...? don't know if that's correct.

I am, however, going to spend a good deal of time in the very near future looking at my Google Webmaster tools. I've been uploading my site xml sitemaps and am generally pleased with its results. However, of note:

Under the Content Analysis, Google reports that my site has 24 pages of Duplicate meta descriptive repitition, and 8 pages of instances of duplicate title tags. My entire site is, roughly 150 pages.

I'll put my brain to the wheel and program different meta tags in an effort to get better Google rankings and hopefully PR.

I was also under the impression that reciprocal linking was dead. Google can see when two sites link to each other, and will not award either site with any 'authority'.

Thanks for reading, and I'd love to receive some feedback from those who know much more about this area than myself!
Don

Hey donnie98125, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

So, what exactly is your question? You'll tend to get the best responses with clear topics that focus on a particular question. General questions like "how do I market my site" are so broad that they tend to get overlooked.

I can say from what you've said so far that yes, you should absolutely get the dup descriptions and titles fixed. Each page on your site should be unique relative to all other pages on the site.

Sound like you could use some marketing and link dev help too. Here's a classic on the link dev side:

HI Caveman, thanks for the welcome and also the link to the article.
I am in the process of changing up the meta tags.

You know what's interesting about that article as it pertains to my particular situation (interesting in that I feel better!): I make more sales now (and get more traffic) despite my lower Google Page Rank. I actually do quite well on organic search results on Yahoo and MSN, as I'm on the first page of results for a lot of keywords that I think are important - Google, not so great.
