Hello,

Can anyone please tell me if google and yahoo see any problem in having a large volume of html files in a *single* directory. I have about 2000 html files that I want to upload all in the same directory, on my web site. The directory is located in the root of the web site (http://website_address/directory).

I'm afraid that the SE's will not end up seeing this as a spam technique, and give my site some kind of penalty.

The pages themselves are not in any way spammy, they have good titles, good descriptions, they contain quality data, etc. They are static html pages, not dynamic.

The way I want to build this web database won't permit me to create multiple directories, but a single directory where I'll upload all of these html files.

I've searched google for an answer to this question, but couldn't find anything on this subject.

Thanks,

Alex

Hey alex100, welcome to WebmasterWorld!

Nah, that's not spam. So long as the pages are of high quality, you're fine.

The potential issue I see is site structure.

Are all those pages of more or less equal importance? A very flat file structure, with little or no apparent hierarchy, may not be the best way to get your pages to rank well.

A site's hierarchy is established more by linking patterns, but the directory/file structure is a reinforcing element ideally.

Read this thread about Theme Pyramids [webmasterworld.com], and note especially Brett's post.
