Deal All,

Now one company asked me to help with their sites.

They have about 60 sites, but all the sites are created from the same database to target different kws or cities.

Now they have very little traffic and they don't want to cost money for domain name registration and web hosting now.

How to clear so many sites? Some sites have some google traffic, some have some Yahoo traffic and some have some MSN traffic.

How about ban yahoo and msn if site A have google traffic and ban google and msn if site B have yahoo traffic?

If redirect all the sites to the main sites then will lose traffic at this moment.

How about the links collected before? If redirect will the link power transfered to the main site?

Pls kindly help for some good ideas.

Thanks.

If most of the content across the 60 sites is mostly the same words, but just swapping out a keyword here and there, then you will probably need to narrow it down to just a few active sites. I think the idea of using robots.txt to focus each site on the search engine where it is already ranking might be a good idea then.

Yes, after a period of recalculation, all the engines will transfer the backlink power through a 301 redirect. Do a backlink study first so you make the right choices and don't spend your efforts on the insignificant things.

Since you say the sites are getting very little traffic right now, I would not worry too much about losing more for a short period.

The key is for you to decide whether to combine many of these sites - using subdirectories, for example. If you can come with a handful of more powerful sites, that would probably be the best all around. But these kinds of questions are very difficult to settle in the abstract - it really will come down to the strength and completeness of your analysis of those 60 domains (I shudder at the idea!)

I want to do the following way, but it looks like impossible.

For example, if Site A has google traffic and little yahoo and msn traffice then I use robots.txt to ban yahoo and msn and only allow google spider.

Can I use 301 to redirect site A to main site for MSN and Yahoo only?

Or any better idea?

how to analyze the strength and completeness of every site? I just think if site A have google traffic then we want to keep google traffic at site A and if site B have yahoo traffic then try to keep yahoo traffic at siteB.

Thanks.

How big are the sites? Would it make sense to "flesh out" some of the more important sites with unique content?

acturally we can only let one or two sites to be unique, all the other are created based on the database and put different key words....

About 30 sites are very big (over 20,000 pages per site) and about 30 sites are small (about 200 pages per site) ....
