Is this a possible way to increase "trust"?

Can you be more specific as to what you mean by "trust" please?

I apologize, the post was not made intentionally vague. I perhaps should have prefaced by asking what others may consider trust.

I have read posts/articles about how some alogs may weight sites, to some degree, based upon perceived trust.

It would seem to me that there are two types of trust. The first would involve such things as address located on a site, privacy policy etc. The second would involve among other things, site age. Again, sorry, not intending to be vague, I am trying to better understand it.

I am wondering if the site validation badges have had any positive impact upon rankings...

tedster: Valid code certainly seems to help on the SERPs. That's because it is so friendly to all user agents, including spiders - but not because validation is built into any SE algorithm.

"TrustRank," though, which is where I think you're getting the word "trust," is a patented aspect of Google's link evaluation algorithm that involves manually chosen "seed pages" to help implement the "discovery of good pages." I'm sure the choosing has to do with quality and authority of content, and nothing to do with validated code.

...site validation badges...

the_sponge - A PS to the above... and please forgive in advance, as I'm not making light of your question, and it's completely off topic... but I just can't resist including here this common paraphrase of a line from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre":

"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!"

Sorry... too good a setup to pass up. ;)
