After a meteoric rise in 2012, the image scraping giant's US traffic has been steadily declining according to Google Trends data. Funnily enough, the site is most popular in South Dakota where there isn't a whole lot to do, and far less popular in New York state and DC where people have more choice of activities.

[trends.google.com...]

It's not a scientific survey, but perusing reddit reveals complaints about the site having too high an ad/content ration, arbitrary decisions, as well as gripes about receiving copyright strikes (they are probably all well deserved).

Here are some reddit thread titles:

  • I can’t be the only one who misses actual pinterest.
  • 1 to 1 advert to pin ratio
  • Removing the Notes feature is the worst thing interest has ever done.
  • dog#*$! company get it together PLEASE
  • Pinterest 13.24 update is horrible.
  • pls sell the app to someone w at least 2 brain cells
  • Pins keep getting violations
  • tired of the Pinterest “community”
  • Pinterest is insufferable
  • Officially unusable

Also not a scientific survey...the most recent post in this subforum dates back 2022, a year when a single thread was posted.

Maybe people don't bother looking for images anymore since AI can generate the slop they are hoping to find.

I waited a long time for Pinterest to die, or at least show sign of a terminal disease (is that a computer pun?).

Is it time for me to rejoice?

Pinterest seems to have been a fad in the 'long' term. At least in terms of any marketing value.

It is Karma for a company built on copyright theft?
