It looks as if Pinterest is moving forward with the paid and promoted aspect of pins in its test in the U.S.

I can see this being a boon to travel and fashion, etc.

In September, we told you about our plans to experiment with Promoted Pins on Pinterest. Now, we’re working with a small group of brands to roll out a paid test in our search and category feeds. Pinterest Tests Paid Promoted Pins To Selected Brands [business.pinterest.com]

IMO Pinterest is becoming intrusive; popping-up in Firefox while surfing (I do not have a Pinterest account nor a bookmark.) Also, it keeps installing itself in my Android phone's photo gallery, which I manually remove each time.

This tends to drive me away from things, not make me want to use them. Does this type of pushy behavior actually work with anyone?

Pinterest is yet another way to search for a share things, nothing more or less. I would think that testing the same waters every other similar site is testing will yield the same results. If all sites jump into the same waters they lose their distinctiveness and thus their appeal.

@keyplyr
I haven't noticed that at all. How strange!

The question I consistently ask myself is, "Is using Pinterest worth it" - I've seen very little effect from the site for 3-4 different clients we've set up on there. I am pretty sure it's value is far more niche specific that I originally thought.

Compared to other promoted posts on other social networking sites, I think the promoted pins are actually relevant. The promoted posts I see on Facebook, for instance, have very little to do with my interests, even though they're supposed to be shown to a specific target audience or whatever.
