This phone could help a lot of people get online (and using Opera :) ), interesting move by Microsoft here. Whereas Apple charges a premium for their devices, Microsoft has always been willing to price slash in order to onboard new markets.
Hacked.com Story [hacked.com]
The Nokia 215 will launch in select markets, rolling out first in Q1 2015 in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Europe. It’s evident that a low-priced phone with the essential features that users expect in smartphones, including Facebook, Twitter, email and web browsing, may become a hit in developing markets where not everyone can afford a last generation iPhone.
TechCrunch [techcrunch.com] is quick to point out that the phone isn't a full "smart phone" however.
The Nokia 215 is not a smartphone — so does not run Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS — but it is a very inexpensive dumbphone: priced at just $29 before taxes or subsidies.
It's no surprise that Bing is the default search engine, and could give it a boost in emerging markets.
Given that Facebook is pre-installed, they may end up being the biggest winner here.
I don't know what, if any, apps will be available for download (will people be able to use apps from the
Opera App Store [apps.opera.com]?). Really wish they would include a Bitcoin wallet by default.
