ive used my phone(motorolla v557 on cingular/att&t) and PDA(palm tx). usually on both i use the interent connection from my phone. for both to work right i had to install the opera mini browser which installed fine on the phone, the pda needed a virtual java machine and setting changed before it worked.i cant get very detailed stats, just the basics. personally i prefer using my phone over the pda, as it is just easier to launch and load to do a quick stat check with the phone. especially when driving lol...

I'm setting up to use my cell phone as a broadband modem while traveling this fall. So far it works great from home for a regular internet connection and pretty good for skype telephone too.

You want to be careful about doing Skype or other VoIP services. Verizon and the other cell carriers frown on it and have been known to boot users off the network.

We were thrown off Verizon's Wireless Broadband service for looking at too much video (our own).

I'm also seeing good reviews for the Nokia E90

What I am looking for is a wifi PDA to be able to quickly check site statistics, login and block some IPs if needed, login to AdSense too every once in a while when I am on the road for extended periods, and use the mobile connection to do all that when no wifi is available.

I just upgraded my phone this weekend. Actually, I was on vacation/business and absent-mindedly walked into the ocean with the old one... Dumb...

Anyway, the new phone is one of the low end phones with a built in browser and verizon's wireless broadband service. When I tried getting to my adsense account with their built in 'browser', I got a 'You need javascript enabled' Message. I didnt' have time to mess around with it so I never was able to get it working right.

Someone here mentioned downloading the Opera Mini browser. I'll try that.

I have a couple of clients who own Treos. It seems like they might have a little more browsing capabilities.

The other thing I'd like to try, when I get the time and money, is the PDA version of go2mypc. The one down side is that you would have to leave a machine running while you are on the road. The plus is that you would be accessing adsense from your own IP .

While it may seem simply too outrageous to consider, I just (very successfully) logged in to my AdSense account using my son's Nintendo DS Lite with the relatively new Opera (for devices) browser cartridge.

No additional settings were required other than to get connected to the wireless router.

Browser usability has fairly serious limitations from the standpoint of limited screen size, minimal memory and processing speed but... it IS a serviceable WiFi tool for certain applications.

Actually the screen size is larger than most phones and it's certainly easier than hauling a laptop around if you just want to "poke" at the web a bit. All for about $150!

I'm using Palm Treo 650 with internet connection from the phone provider.

For browsing, I'm using Opera Mini browser. Some activities including:
- login & checking email in gmail
- login to adsense
- reading webmasterworld forum

i know it's not on your list, but i'll say it anyway for those who care:
I use my iPhone to log in to Adsense, administer my site and even post here and at other forums using WiFi and the AT&T Edge network..
about the only thing i can't do is check my Analytics stats because it uses flash which is a no-go on the iPhone..

Actually the iPhone was one of the options I considered.
But I decided to wait for the iPhone2, it's a beautiful gadget now, but I never buy the first release of anything (did get your $100 cupon yet?), most probably I'll grab the next one.

Narrowed down the choices to:
- Nokia E61i
- Palm TX

The Nokia only leads with the tiny qwerty keyboard and the mobile.
The Palm TX is more attractive even though it is not mobile, but it makes it all up with the pocket fitting size, solid palm os (I already have 4 palms, now using m515c), its clickable screen (much better than having to button scroll one link at a time), it can connect via wifi or through a Bluetooth mobile, the screen is large enough for comfortable browsing, and can even switch portrait and landscape, in addition to other features like playing music and all the reliable pda stuff, it takes a lot of work to crash a palm.

How about Samsung Q1? It's not so tiny but it's the closest thing to a real PC with the smallest form factor. Not necessary for basic tasks but you can do almost anything you can with your dektop PC except playing the latest first person shooter.

BTW, Hobbs, you're absolutely right about not getting an iPhone just yet. The market will be full of similar devices. iPhone2 must have a real competition there.

The Samsung Q1 is one beautiful device Alioc,
But it is not something you can carry in your pocket, or take with you on a motorbike ride or a beach trip, you can only compare it against a notebook due to size and price range. Beautiful toy all the same, now I want to have that one too!
