Hot on the heels of Opera’s final release of the year comes Vivaldi 1.6, a new version of the world’s most flexible web browser from Opera co-founder Jon S von Tetzhner.

Version 1.6 -- available for Mac, Windows and Linux -- debuts three new features, all revolving around the browser’s flexible tab management system. The highlight of these is the new tab notification feature.

What are Vivaldi's system requirements? I've been checking since it was first announced. It almost seems that they're either avoiding the question, or assuming that if you need to ask then you can't afford it. ;)

To give an idea the kind of thing I'm expecting to find, here's a link for Firefox v50.0 System Requirements...

Vivaldi is Chrome based, and Chrome dropped XP support a while ago, so you're out of luck there unfortunately. The same would go for Opera.

My interest is for Windows 7 and higher.

Is Vivaldi a browser that demands a lot of resources, or not? While there's been lots of talk over the years that Firefox, eg, has been a resource hog, with others using that desription to characterize Chrome. I've not heard anything about Vivaldi in that regard.

Heavy footprint? Or light on its toes? I realize, of course, that it depends on the system, but I'd like to get a sense of comparative heaviness in different situations.

I've had it installed on a Windows 7 system for more than a year. Haven't had any problems with it at all. I don't have Chrome installed, so it works as a substitute. Overall I use 4 browsers, depending on the purpose: IE, Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi.

Is Vivaldi a browser that demands a lot of resources

Well I've been trying to find some answers but having unexpected problems.

My system is Windows 7 professional with 256 Gb hard drive. I think the RAM is 16000 Mb, but haven't been able to confirm this.

When I opened Vivaldi, memory usage went from 21% to 22%, and appeared to stay there as I visited several sites.

Looking at the browser program folder sizes in Windows Explorer, I found:
Internet Explorer 9.8 Mb
Mozilla Firefox 91.6 Mb
Opera 277.0 Mb
Vivaldi Unable to find the folder

So that's what I've found (or not found)

Well I finally found a Vivaldi folder, with a size of 467 Mb. It was in AppData instead of Programs.

I also found a different Internet Explorer folder with a size of 28.8 Mb.
