I wonder how popular edge will end up being on the Android and IOS platforms? For casual users, there really isn't the need or desire to worry about what browser they are using. Many may not even know what web browser they are even using on a mobile device because branding is a lot less noticeable.

Does this mean the people who are going to be exploring the browser choices are the tech-savvy users? and are they really likely to choose to install what is effectively the next generation follow-on of Internet Explorer?

Edge for Android just updated on my phone to v42.

On all my Android devices (a phone, two tablets) I browser and do most things with Chrome.

The main reason I have Edge on my phone is for responsive testing. Edge keeps changing they way they display a few things and I've had to redesign more than once. However, I agree that mobile Edge is not a big player.

I also like Bing News and get points for Search, which can be cached in for prizes and gift cards, etc.

That another browser is implementing ad blocking internally is the real news.

This last year I learned to see (really see) things from other perspectives. Such measures as this are pushing webmasters forward on really... really taking power back on their own websites and avoid giving away the spaces.

So..if you land on a page that takes over your CPU to run bitcoin mining..You let it happen ? ..You have nothing in place to prevent ( by "altering their page" ) that other webmaster doing that ?
You don't run any antivirus, because it might prevent some other webmasters page feeding you an ad with a alicious paylod, because that would be altering the other webmasters page ? ..must be "interesting" running win 10 "wide open" like that. "

* any site can get hacked..even this one..and javascript is not necessary to implement in order to do what iBill recoded this one to do..( also not allowing scripts means that Google doesn't know who posts which comment here, which if one allows scripts that call to "ajax" at google..Google does know ..that ajax call is effectively a Google IP tracker.

ABP has a white-list , which let ads on sites approved. So I am curious to know if this white-list applies or not with Edge for mobile. Also, I wish Microsoft would do something like Chrome, and block* intrusive or bad ads (like the bitcoin mining example of Leosghost), and let acceptable ads.

* I understand that this is what happened during my absence, but I have no idea if this is effective or not, since I didn't see a single example of ads being blocked by Chrome...

adblockers and script blockers ( you said you use neither ) both block..malware, browser high jacks, bit coin miners, and malware served by ads..no stretch at all..If you don't use a script blocker, how do you block drive by malware on web pages, CPU hi-jacks on web pages , or ads with malware payloads ?

One of the reasons I use Chrome exclusively. It won't let me even load a compromised page.

Not an argument :) merely a discussion between webmasters about ad blockers, script blockers and their use in keeping one's machine(s) secure..
The faith you have in Google's browser and Microsoft's win 10 OS is touching, I allow neither of them to access the internet..

Bing doesn't send people to websites much these days so do they care about website ads? Even if they had a vested interest in websites showing their ads or one of their platforms, this shows you how much is matters to them. So long as their SERPS and Bing properties show ads, then no worries on their end. And from last check, Bing is doing a GREAT job at showing content on serps and plugging up with a vast number of ads that really don't appear as ads. Clever these guys are. Frankly speaking, I like using Bing video because I can watch #*$! videos without having to go to the source site. Feels less dirty to me.

Of course it is .. what with inexperienced and often times irresponsible publishing script kiddies throwing junk atostart this and autostart that code scripting for ads out there that chew through the bandwidth on capped data plans, I can see the adblock as a driving force behind a positive end user browsing experience at the end of the day (the autostart video ads are the absolute worst -- they're stupid and worthless) --- The fact that adblock has taken off as much as it has is because nobody wants to look at a bunch of crap when they load a page.
