Microsoft working with its chip-maker partners, has announced its developed Secured-core PCs to combat the increasing number of attacks aimed at the firmware level and data in memory.

Clearly, this is a step forward for those that require the additional security because of the profile of the industry, such as financial, government and healthcare, of high-sensitivity data, such as personal.

More lock down? What are the implications for things like other OSes, Coreboot, etc.

The chip/firmware manufactuer writes this, not Microsoft -- So chances are pretty good that the security written into the chip will work regardless of what OS is running on top of it.
