I wonder if there's a sigh of relief at Microsoft now the deal is over?

A requirement for Microsoft to offer new Windows users in Europe a choice of web browsers has ended after five years.

Called the browser ballot, it gave non-Microsoft browsers as much prominence on Windows as Internet Explorer (IE).Microsoft Browser Choice Deal Ends [bbc.co.uk]

It's gone on for a number of years, and Microsoft has fallen foul of the deal during the timeframe.

I was never too supportive of a government getting involved in the browser market as there was always consumer choice. Even in markets where this sort of mechanism wasn't in place the consumers still choose better products as is evidenced by the slide of IE market share worldwide.
