Is having separate menu and footer for mobile negatively affect SEO?

Website has almost same menu & footer for desktop and mobile but repeating

Dear Friends,

We have a website <snip> and when I checked home page cache text version of the website I found that Google is finding navigation and footer twice on home page. When I checked with developer he told me that we have two versions of Menu and Footer one is for Desktop and one is for Mobile and we only show one and hide another depending upon the screen size. So for user only one version is displayed but in cache text version Google is able to find both menu and footer however in full cache version I am able to see Google is able to find only one menu and footer. Also I think it's mean the website is not responsive? If it would have been responsive then it should have adjusted the width according to device automatically.

I think that is not good for SEO point of view as Google is finding all these links (menu and footer) twice in cache text version & due to this site looks spammy and I think this is clocking also as for users only one version is displayed but in cache text version crawler is able to find two versions however in full cache version I am able to see Google is able to find only one menu and footer. Kindly check and suggest with solution.

It would be better to have a single version which is responsive using media queries rather than two versions shown depending on some screen size measurement as you have noted. Have you examined the site with browser tools that show you what visitors with different screen sizes are seeing?

Hi not2easy. Thx for your reply. Is there any free browser tool available at webmasterworld or any other place. I checked with some tool few months back and found that it's not responsive on all screen sizes and some brosers like opera etc.

I know that Firefox, Safari and Chrome browsers offer these kinds of tools and some are better than others. Personally I like the Developer Toolbar extension for Firefox.

The shortcut to toggle Responsive (mobile) view in FF is "CTRL+SHIFT M", there's a drop down menu to select a large number of screen sizes. :)
