First Experience of Windows 11 is Frustrating

Microsoft started pushing me to accept the Windows 10 to 11 update. I resisted for a while because I wanted to do it at a time to suit me. However, that's not the way it worked. The reminders kept coming until I was faced with an option to accept the update, or, seemingly, be faced with rejecting the update. In a moment of hesitation, with the aim of finding out more, I must have hit the upgrade procedure. It was away...

Oh well, that was time to go and make a cup of tea. More than one cup of tea later, well, there it is, Windows 11.

I'm slightly underwhelmed, but then, I haven't been digging into features and benefits.

Biggest annoyance is that my taskbar is now uncustomized for me, but a Microsoft customization. OK, I can fix that (time wasted) to put it back to what I had before. Wait, where are the programs? Crikey, they are hidden behind another Microsoft Customization. More clicks required to find my programs.

I have not played Solitaire on a computer since Windows 3.X, so why would Microsoft want to put that available at first click! I get it that many of the other programs have probably paid to be on that initial menu, but really, why make it harder to get to the programs I use!

At some point i'll find time to get rid of the bloatware and restore my programs front and centre.

BTW, don't get me wrong, Google and Apple are just as bad at bloatware, so i'm not singling out Microsoft.

Same here. I didn't want to mess up my main work machine but needed a new notebook for when I am away. I also needed to check our apps on a Windows 11 machine.

First thing that one notices is how they changed the desktop and app menus. Why do that when that takes so long to correct back to something that it used to look like.

Then there is the chore of removing unwanted apps, mainly MS Office. I did not choose that option during install but found that I not only had to uninstall Office but also uninstall several other versions of Office for different languages.

Almost all of the bookmarks that they install on the desktop have gone. Now I have replaced them with my own selection and it really doesn't look very different.

Even the user-agent is the same as Windows 10.

Yes well my approach was entirely different - in the hope Win 11 fixed some problems.

It didn't.

I simply put a spare old 500 Gb drive on, Put Win 11 on it. Closed down, disconnected all drives except for that one and started up again. Welcome to Windows 11. Anticlimax.

Enough said - no fixes to my problems - I didn't even like the look and feel.

Windows 11 is for the Rudy Parks of the world - although he is an Apple Smartphone devotee - but needs a diet of whiz bang bling.

To me my Desktop is a TOOL -nothing else, not a toy.

The more MS modifies the more these look like media entertainment machines ... what happened to the "work pc"?

Win 11 (insider) is now requiring cloud MS account just to operate....

Internet connection now required for Windows 11 Pro Insider setup

Now you know why I rarely visit Insider. Also don't even mention outstanding needed fixes.

Quite sometime back I shocked one of - IMHO - WebmasterWorld most respected, skilled and talented contributors when he visited one of my Microsoft links to a problem needing fixing.

He was literally shocked at the Microsoft response.

Not surprised. But with each iteration the move to full Linux is looking more attractive. (sigh)
