Microssoft has unveiled a line of Surface Pro laptops, which look pretty cool. It's also said there's a new Windows 10 China Government Edition.
Today in Shanghai, China we announced that with strong support of CETC and Microsoft, CMIT, our joint venture has now developed Windows 10 China Government Edition for China government customers and Lenovo will be one of the first OEM partners to preinstall Windows 10 China Government Edition[url=Today in Shanghai, China we announced that with strong support of CETC and Microsoft, CMIT, our joint venture has now developed Windows 10 China Government Edition for China government customers and Lenovo will be one of the first OEM partners to preinstall Windows 10 China Government Edition Microsoft Now Offers Windows 10 China Government Edition [blogs.windows.com]

One wonders how many months ago the new Windows 10 pirated Government Edition was out...

Yeah, well, they probably thought it best to provide a legitimate version to help with the finances. i'm sure the Government supported the idea.

Windows 10 China Government Edition?

The epitome of a government/corporate surveillance machine. Microsoft gratefully acknowledge the full cooperation of the government of the Peoples Republic of China for road testing this edition for them.

Coming to an office/home near you very, very soon.

Based on Windows 10 Enterprise Edition but could be similar to Windows 10 S that was developed for K-12 schools giving admin to a single user (the teacher) and limiting the customization & installation of 3rd party apps.

sounds like the british government could have done with something like that, given the recent NHS computer ransomware scandal.

The computers that feel prey to the ransomware were outdated & vulnerable systems, not Windows 10.

That attack speaks to poor IT management for not upgrading in a timely fashion. :)

Win10 locked down might be a good thing for institutions and governments. Hopefully there won't be any Windows Store or advertisements.

Governments tend not to do that - IT management often work within a budget that also tends to be "no frills". What IT management would like, and what they get are often diametrically opposed.

Speak to some corporate IT people, even they suffer - as one fellow told me years ago, the bean counters always told them:

"Your only contribution is to drag profits down, new toys, always new toys"

That was a relatively large corporation - governments with razor gangs attacking budgets....
