I’m streaming music via the Tidal.com app to my home stereo rig on a dedicated Windows 7 HP laptop. Due to power supplies and cable lengths, the laptop is parked on the equipment rack with everything else. I’d love to figure out a remote control by my listening chair via my Windows Surface RT.

I got the Remote Desktop app functioning on my Surface. But it simply transferred the sound from the rig to the Surface’s tiny speakers. Ha! Can the RDP app be configured to keep the audio on the streaming HP but the controls on the Surface. Any suggestions? Thx.

In the Remote Desktop Connection app, before you connect to the remote resource, click the Show Options. From there you can configure what resources, like audio, should be connected during the remote desktop session. Just tell it to play the audio from the remote device rather than your local (Surface) device.

Thank you! The problem was that I downloaded a Remote Desktop app from the MS store. This version does not offer a 'Show Options' menu. I found the RDP version built-in to the Surface OS. Works great! Just what I wanted.

Those Windows Store apps can be third party junk sometimes. The built-in Windows version is generally sufficient for this sort of local stuff.
