Microsoft releases tool to hide or block unwanted Windows 10 updates

Windows 10 testers who've complained about mandatory updates in Microsoft's new operating system might have a solution at hand. The tool, available as an optional download, lets you hide or block any update for Windows or a hardware driver.

Windows 10 testers who've complained about mandatory updates...

Good grief!

You are a Windows tester and you can't control updates on your own machine?

Well I never...

Well, given that they're moving to a system of mandatory updates for everyone with Windows 10 it's a good sign that they're heeding the call of the testers in this case.

The mandatory updates are for the core O/S only. Currently you can hold off feature extension updates. The documentation on third party sites is scattered as reviewers comments.

Might be time for me to take the tech-info deep dive as wifey's laptop has the update icon showing <G>

From the article re: KB3073939 [support.microsoft.com]:
The package is labeled for use with the Windows 10 Insider Preview, but based on its performance on the final (10240) preview build, it looks like it should work with the final release beginning July 29.
