After a brief period of selling only Vista, Dell was forced to bring back Windows XP, since there remained a lot of demand for the old system. Now Dell is going even farther, as it's warning business customers about the difficult challenges that lay ahead of them if they decide to adopt Vista.TechDirt article [techdirt.com]
Dell is "stepping back" from telling people they must upgrade. "We are set up to give people all the guidance and support they need for this...We are not here to promote Microsoft and tell people they should buy it."ZDNet article [news.zdnet.co.uk]
I have Vista Business, and I use it for business. How does all that media bloat do a thing for the business side?
You asked what Media Center was and I think ByronM was very clear in his explanation (and generous with his time). The Media Center is obviously not bloat for the uses that many people have. You may be surprised that some businesses today do use media as well. ;)
The Business version of Vista doesn't include the Media Center functions so you may have to look at the other feature/benefits, like ease of networking instead.
Upgrading to Vista
I'm going to have to agree with others in this thread and say that an upgrade of a Windows OS is a bad idea. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it's a good idea. A major Windows release should be installed clean. Upgrades of Microsoft OSs have a history of being problematic.
Lovejoy- out
