Since, Vista is scheduled for release I have been hearing many ask "is Microsoft doomed"! I think Microsoft is a business like any other business, therefore it will have an rocky road (here and there), then eventually things will steady out or economize (handle business). I can't imagine Microsoft being a sinking ship! Microsoft is a survivor and will change if the industry ever changes. If the world began primarily using an Linux based system, then I think it is fair to assume that Microsoft probably has an secret weapon (Windows Linux based OS) in the cut, ready to shock the world and take over as a Linux OS! Of course, this would not be revealed unless the world shifted overnight from Windows to Linux, but I doubt this would ever happen because I am confident there are many more people that Love Microsoft than Linux.
I never had any serious issues with viruses, stability, security, crashes, or other most disputed issues (and I have used Microsoft as an advanced user (sys admin) for over 10+ years). Not to say I never had any problems such as: compatibility, configuration, errors, etc. but I haven't had anything that would make me say "I am switching to Linux". Honestly, have you?
I can't take any cheap shots at Linux, because as being an sys admin I must sometimes work with *nix systems and I'm actually activy with the open source community, but I don't think Microsoft is doomed! Do you?

Most people who complain about Microsoft is using pirated software! Get a purchased copy from the manufacturer then complain. The same people who get a bootleg DVD then complain about its quality!

For instance, if Google were to adopt MS business tactics, they would release a Google flavor of Linux and distribute it free on magazine coverdisks, etc. They could also offer it free to companies like Dell, etc. so that they could offer reduced-price PCs running "Googlix" (or maybe, Google would be really cheeky and call it "Doors").

As to the rest of it's business practices ..they are pretty much the way any big business or state enterprise operates ..anywhere in the world ..whenever it can get away with it ..

Linux is a nightmare. Fine for a server where it's never touched, but as a desktop client? I don't think so.
No, Microsoft is not doomed. They are successful for a good reason. They give the ordinary public what they want.

Lil' gems like the above morning chuckle aren't what brought me to this venue, but they are indeed one of many good reasons to stick around.

As for being doomed, I'm don't see MS top dawgs in soup kitchens anytime soon .. funding a few, sure, but standing in line ... nah. Love 'em, hate 'em, ignore them, they do have their followers, and many of them are far removed from little blind sheeple.
