Apple has lost its trademark fight with a leather goods business in China and means the firm can continue to use the iPhone name.

How odd that it took 11-years for Apple's trademark to come through, and the leather goods company to gain its trademark sooner.

The Beijing Municipal High People's Court ruled in favour of Xintong Tiandi Technology, said the official Legal Daily newspaper.

Xintong Tiandi trademarked "IPHONE" for leather products in China in 2010.

Apple filed a trademark bid for the name for electronic goods in 2002, but it was not approved until 2013. Apple Loses iPhone Trademark Dispute in China [bbc.co.uk]

One can only wonder how leather goods will benefit with an IPhone trademark. :)

The odd part is that it took 8 years to find a local company that could be dragooned into applying for the same trademark.
