Access local network PC/Windows server from a Mac

Can't load web pages from my local PC server on my local Mac.

I'm running a local Apache server on my Windows PC. I can access it via the local IP on the same PC and every other PC around the house except for the Mac computer which is also on the same network. I've successfully setup file sharing and can pull the IP of the router just fine though I can't get anything to load in Firefox or Safari on my Mac. Everything I've come across is about file sharing, not local server access. What do I need to do?

What version of Win? All passwords set and known? Just asking. From a TCP/IP point of view there should be no problems. Is there a firewall restriction on your Mac we don't know about? Just asking.

PC is running Windows 7 64 Pro, I do have a VPN though I can disable it if need be. Running Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite (until I finish and will upgrade the OS) and pretty much stock settings. Passwords are known, I'm a power user. ;)

Scratching head (know you know what you're doing just trying to zone in). I don't do a lot of Mac, dang little, but as far as TCP./IP and a full on HTTP from Apache we look at what might NOT be working on the Mac side. So, all file sharing and printing is okay? See files on PC, load exe edit save, etc? And is your local apache at a known ip in the network? ie can any system nail it that way?

Have you tried telnet to the web server on the configured HTTP port? Does it refuse to connect or connect and slam shut or connect and do nothing?

Not being a Mac person I don't have any http testing clients to recommend besides telnet.

There are a fair number of Mac users here AFAIK. I have no problems sharing my Mac files with a PC via LAN, but I'm not trying to access files on a PC server, so my experiences wouldn't be much help.

My only suggestion is to check the Live Headers during a request from the Mac and see what responses are returned at each point of the request to see what is preventing the connection. Mac's firewall is on by default and you may need to enter the address as an exception. Look in the Network Settings and Sharing Settings in your Mac's System Preferences.

It was a firewall issue. I had to go to the Advanced Settings and setup both inbound and outbound rules for ports 80 and 443. That is the rough of it; can't slip on not leaving a working answer behind here on the internet.
