I upgraded last night. Chose to do an archive and install rather than a clean wipe (which is still an option, although Apple has hidden it away a bit), because I only have *one* backup of my data, not the *two* I would feel confident about doing a clean wipe with. Shrug, call me paranoid.

The two things that aren't working for me at all right now are Menu Meters (a program that shows real time data about my computer, I use it to see how fast I am uploading or downloading at any given time), and EyeTV 3. Apple has conveniently provided a little dialog box that tells me when a program is incompatible with snow leopard and what version it is (presumably so I can check for an update). My printer driver also needs to be updated and OSX now does this through Software Update to download these rather than installing them off the install disk like they used to. The developer for menu meters says he will have a new version out soon and presumably Elgato, which develops eyetv will too.

My CS3 apps all open nice and quickly and seem to be working properly, although I haven't done any major testing.

Other differences I notice that will change my workflow just in general:

- Holding down on an open application's icon in the dock no longer provides an option to force quit it (you must use the keystroke option+apple+esc or choose it from the apple menu), but instead a cool new expose feature replaces it, allowing you to see all the open windows in a particular app (all 9 windows of firefox anyone?), INCLUDING the ones in the dock. This will be super handy for use in Mail.app with my habit of minimizing dozens of emails.

- My apps seem to load faster than they used to. In particular, Safari loads up in less than a second.

- The new spring-loaded folders in the dock are going to be really useful for dragging and dropping things.

Wow, remove! I was all ready to go out and buy Snow Leopard, but I can't live without my EyeTV on my iMac. So, I think I'll wait until there's a fix for that! Thanks!

If you remember, could you let us know here on this forum when that's been fixed?

Hmmm. Thanks Remove. I've got a some important printing to do over the next couple of weeks. Remove's experience with the printer drivers has been noted by Apple and elsewhere. Sounds like it's easy to fix, but I don't need the hassle right now.

Just to update, EyeTV has a new version out that is working on Snow Leopard now. :)

Arggh! I just got an email from Parallels. Only the very latest version of Parallels Desktop (4.0) is compatible with Snow Leopard. Parallels upgrade costs $39.95.

fredw, that Parallels situation alone would really put me off upgrading the OS. This is why I put off buying a lot of new software recently I thought might be handy. And while waiting I discovered I really did not need any of that software... (Snow Leopard saved me money and hassle by protecting me from my too-clever self.)
